Biography
Dr. Shanti Swaroop Srivastava is a structural biologist who specializes in cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and X-ray crystallography. He earned his Ph.D. in structural biology and biophysics from the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad. During his Ph.D., Dr. Srivastava elucidated the structures of diverse calcium-binding proteins using X-ray crystallography. Following that, he joined the National Cancer Institute (NCI), NIH, USA and later the University of British Columbia (UBC), Canada for his post-doctoral studies in high-resolution cryo-EM. Dr. Srivastava is enthusiastic about the potential and convenience of single-particle cryo-EM for the investigation of complex and dynamic macromolecular assemblies.
He chose to return to India to establish a research frontier that will focus on resolving biological problems of global concern in human health and disease. In addition, he is passionate about disseminating structural biology knowledge and enjoys training students for creative research.

Research Interest
Molecular interactions control every aspect of cellular function, making it essential to decode protein-protein, protein-nucleic acid, and protein-ligand interactions. Understanding how these interactions are disrupted in various disease conditions is crucial for developing effective therapeutics and drugs. To achieve this, we utilize cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and X-ray crystallography to determine high-resolution structures of macromolecular complexes.
